Interview. The Insoumis hope for "an all-out mobilization" against the Bayrou government

In an interview with Paris Match , Emmanuel Macron hopes that François Bayrou 's government will last until 2027. And you?
"Obviously not, I hope he falls as quickly as possible. Firstly, because the policies he is implementing in social, economic and ecological matters go against the fundamental needs of the country. And then, the plan presented by François Bayrou for the 2026 budget is a real bloodbath. The blank year will result in a drop in purchasing power for most French people, not to mention the elimination of two public holidays and the questioning of certain medical reimbursements... In short, it will make people who are already in an extremely difficult situation suffer even more."
Do you still believe in a dissolution of the National Assembly?
"The reality is that Emmanuel Macron does not have a majority to approve the budget. The hypothesis that the government will be censured in the coming weeks is the most likely. In any case, at La France Insoumise, we will file a motion of censure on the first day of the parliamentary session. Basically, I think we need a return to the people and the ballot box, whether that means a dissolution or the resignation of the president and the organization of an early election."
The political season will also take place in the streets on September 10. Why does La France Insoumise support the movement aimed at “blocking everything”?
"We need a broad-based mobilization. Parliamentary, but also popular. A citizens' movement has emerged and set its first mobilization for September 10. It is our duty, if we want to be consistent in our opposition to the government, to support it and put ourselves at its service, while respecting its non-partisan nature. It is not for La France Insoumise to dictate its modalities of action."
This reminds some of the yellow vest movement. You too?
"There are similarities. Its impetus doesn't come from a union, political, or associative organization, but from a citizen one. There are also the slogans and demands: this idea that it's not up to the people to pay the consequences of Emmanuel Macron's policies and the gifts given to the richest and multinationals, this aspiration for more social justice, tax justice, and democracy."
Municipal elections are looming in the spring of 2026. What will your strategy be?
"We're preparing to present lists in most municipalities around a disruptive program. The idea is to say that we can do things differently. For example, we can have measures to promote purchasing power, with free school canteens, or reject the privatization of water management. Then, we build lists around these programmatic markers. Sometimes, these will be lists with only members of La France Insoumise, citizens. In other cases, they will bring together other political parties. But as long as we agree on the content."
On the international level, what is your response to Benjamin Netanyahu, who accused France and Emmanuel Macron of fueling anti-Semitism?
"It is unacceptable and extremely shocking. It unfortunately does great harm to the necessary, legitimate, and fundamental fight against anti-Semitism that any criticism of the policies of Benjamin Netanyahu's far-right government, any vigorous protest against the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip, any action aimed at recognizing Palestine, is equated with anti-Semitism. It is a detestable way of trying, in a way, to prevent any criticism."
